Donations for Scholarship Awards
This is an urgent appeal to all
members of the Sierra
Leone Community in Central Ohio... Please help us meet our
goal of continuing the scholarship program that we started in
Sierra Leone during the last academic year. In 2008, we
spent a over $2,500.00 on scholarship awards to 22 Junior and Senior
Secondary School children in
Sierra Leone.
The funds were taken out of the
Sierra Leone Club
of
Columbus Ohio general account. The promise and hope at the
time was members will donate generously toward the scholarship fund
to replenish the account for future disbursements...
Schools have reopen in Sierra
Leone, and I have been contacted on several occasion by parents,
students as well as an inquiry from the local media in Sierra Leone.
The Media have also contacted Cecil and Margaret Fyle to find out
if the
Sierra Leone Club of Columbus Ohio will continue the
scholarship program started in 2008. Only a very few members
have donated thus far (thanks to those who have done so)
toward the scholarship fund. Please come to the rescue...We
need your help very urgently...It is not yet too late to renew the
scholarships...Our reputation is at stake...the image of the
organization and that of the
Sierra Leone Ohio
community is also at stake... We made a promise to these
kids, please help us fulfill it ...No donation is too small, but
some of us made a promise of one hundred dollars ($100.00) last
year.
Our 2008 scholarship recipients
have submitted their report cards, and an assessment has been done
to determine if they meet the academic standards we set in order for
them to qualify for renewal. The have all met the criterial for
renewal.
I thank you for your urgent
consideration of this matter and look forward to your donation...I
will be contacting you soon, if I don't hear from you. We can
always improve the process, and we are looking for
ideas/suggestions/volunteers to make this a better process and
worthwhile undertaking....
